The Street Struggle

Two young men, Luthando and Bhulelani have spent the majority of their lives living on the streets of Grahamstown. They discuss the challenges that street children face in providing for themselves once they turn eighteen and are no longer  a part of the few initiatives in place to help street children.

The existence of street children is most often viewed as a significant problem, stripping youth of their humanity and burdening them with the everyday concern of survival. This growing issue is evident in many countries throughout the world and is no stranger to the city of Grahamstown in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa.

This multimedia project includes different media that explore a deeper look into the life struggles and dangers of youth who live on the streets of Grahamstown. The bigger question it also seeks to uncover is why the social concern has yet to be addressed in this small town.
